Serving the NYC Opera Community since 2005!

A great readings series for singers!

Open to all singers: entry-level, young professionals, seasoned artists
Enjoy opportunities to work through complete scores
There are no rehearsals per se. Singers prepare individually, then meet to read. Occasionally we schedule a group rehearsal, i.e. Ping, Pang, Pong scenes or Carmen Quintet.
Tailor-made for you: review, prepare for performance or try out new repertoire
Work with focused like-minded colleagues
Informal closed sessions, like a working rehearsal; without audience pressure
Memorization is not necessary, but definitely be ready to sing
There is a refreshment break to which everyone contributes something
THE MORE OF THE ROLE YOU KNOW WHEN YOU START TO WORK TOWARDS THE READING DATE, THE BETTER if it’s a short time period!

STC, on the eve of its THIRTEENTH year, is an informal readings series that offers singers opportunities to work through complete scores with like-minded colleagues.

Readings are held on Sundays (occasionally Saturdays) from 4 PM - 8 PM.
The readings are held at our Director’s studio at Broadway & 98th Street.
Occasionally we do them at other venues.
The project is a tool to prepare for an upcoming engagement, but also to provide the means:
to polish a role you consider one of your "bread-and-butter" roles.
to review a role you've done already.
to complete a role for inclusion on your resume as “prepared”.
to try out a role you’re considering adding to your repertoire.

How to join us!

STC has grown quickly, and attracts excellent singers with high standards who work at a professional level, and is a tool and experience that singers say is really needed and NOT available in school or in the professional environment.
Prepare and sing through these roles with Susan Morton, director of Festa Lirica Italiana and past music staff and Italian coach at New York City Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, faculty at Manhattan School of Music, coach/conductor/Italian recitative coach at Opera Festival di Roma, and many other regional companies and international festivals.
